Boston Bruins president Cam Neely issued a statement Friday after the overtime goal scored by Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Second Round on Thursday at TD Garden was met with a number of racist remarks on Twitter.
A number of tweets used racial slurs in regards to Subban, who is black.
"The racist, classless views expressed by an ignorant group of individuals following Thursday's game via digital media are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization," the statement read.
Subban scored a pair of power-play goals, the second of which came 4:17 into the second overtime to give the Canadiens a 4-3 win and 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
