Boston Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton sustained a lower-body injury in the first period of a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night and could miss at least a week, according to Bruins coach Claude Julien.
Hamilton, 20, took his last shift of the game with 4:58 remaining in the first period.
"He's going to fly back home [Monday], and he'll be evaluated by our doctors," Julien said after Boston earned a 5-2 victory at Air Canada Centre. "Right now, it doesn't seem like he's going to be playing with us for this coming week. It doesn't look good for as far as the original diagnosis. He's probably done for at least a week."
The Bruins' four-game road trip continues Tuesday against the Calgary Flames. They are hoping Johnny Boychuk will be able to return from a back sprain. Otherwise, the Bruins will likely promote a defenseman from Providence of the American Hockey League.
Hamilton has three goals, four assists and a plus-9 rating in 28 games this season.
