BOSTON – Boston Bruins
General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced that earlier today Andrew Ference
underwent successful surgery to repair an abdominal hernia and to perform an adductor release. The surgery was performed by Dr. David Berger and Dr. Peter Asnis at Mass General Hospital and will force Ference to miss approximately four to six weeks.
Ference skated in 47 games during the 2008-2009 regular season for Boston and registered 1-15-16 totals, in addition to playing in three postseason games. 2008-2009 was Ference’s second full season with the Bruins, after being acquired from Calgary on February 10, 2007 along with Chuck Kobasew
in exchange for Brad Stuart
and Wayne Primeau
The 30-year-old has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins
, Flames and Bruins in his career and is a veteran of 519 NHL regular season games. In those 519 games, he has registered 24-109-133 totals and has also appeared in 61 postseason contests and recorded 3-18-21 totals.
