David Backes got in the holiday spirit a little early this year by sharing a meal with some old pals from St. Louis in his new Boston home.
The Boston Bruins forward had eight St. Louis Blues players at his house for dinner before their game Tuesday at TD Garden, Backes' first against his former team.
"I'm going to see a lot of familiar faces and met a couple for dinner [Monday]," Backes said after Boston's morning skate Tuesday. "Just want to stay in the moment and help do what I can to help our team win and afterwards we can shake hands and give each other hugs and wish each other the best moving forward."
Defensemen Jay Bouwmeester and Colton Parayko and forward Ryan Reaves were among the Blues at Backes' house Monday. Reaves admitted it would be weird seeing Backes on the opposing bench from him.
"It's a little weird playing against a teammate for so long and a friend," Reaves told FOX Sports Midwest. "It's always weird facing off for the first time, especially so quick into the next season."
Backes' spent his first 10 NHL seasons with the Blues, and was the Blues captain from 2011-16 before signing a seven-year contract with the Bruins on July 1.
