LAS VEGAS (AP) -Claude Julien of the Boston Bruins has been chosen as the NHL's coach of the year, earning 35 first-place votes from the NHL Broadcasters' Association.

Julien won the award Thursday night after guiding the Bruins to the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Boston (53-39-10) finished with the league's second-best offense with 275 goals after ranking 25th in the 2007-08 season.

Chara snapped the three-year Norris winning streak of Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom. Lidstrom, who was a finalist again, had won the award six of the previous seven seasons.
