REGINA - Mike Brown scored the game-winner to help the Swift Current Broncos beat the Regina Pats 4-2 in Western Hockey League action Friday night.
Nothing was riding on the game as Regina (27-39-1-5) was officially eliminated from the playoffs on Wednesday and the Broncos (42-28-1-1), having clinched fourth place in the Eastern Conference, are set to face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first round of the playoffs.
Nevertheless, it was a forgettable end to a dismal year for the Pats, who managed to record just 12 shots during their season finale in front of 5,909 fans.
The teams exchanged goals in the first two periods to head into the third tied 2-2. Five minutes into the period, Brown recorded the eventual game-winner when he stripped the puck from Regina's Jordan Eberle for a partial breakaway then roofed a wrist shot for his fourth of the year.
Scoring Swift Current's goals were with his 24th. Chipping in for Regina with his 16th was with his 25th.
Justin Dowling, Cody Eakin and Michael Stickland added goals for Swift Current, while Jordan Weal and Matt Strueby replied for the Pats.
Earning the win for Swift Current was Morgan Clark. Linden Rowat Made 28 saves in the loss for Regina.
