Brown makes 35 saves, Rockets defeat Hitmen 4-1 in rematch of WHL final @NHLdotcom

Stepan Novotny scored twice for Kelowna, and Adam Brown made 35 saves, as the Rockets beat the league-leading Calgary Hitmen 4-1 in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday night.

Cody Chikie, with his sixth goal of the season, and Brett Bulmer, also scored for Kelowna (8-6-1), which beat Calgary in last season's WHL championship, winning the best-of-seven series 4-2.

Novotny's 11th and 12th goals of the season came on first-period power plays.

Joel Broda, with his seventh goal, a soft tap-in following a nice feed from Brandon Kozun, replied for Calgary (12-4-0), which had a five-game winning streak come to an end.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Edmonton 7 Seattle 1; Everett 4 Kootenay 1; Prince Albert 6 Medicine Hat 0; and Brandon 5 Spokane 4.

At Kelowna, B.C., the game, which featured plenty emotion, hitting and fights, was the first of a three-game B.C. Division road trip for the Hitmen.

Martin Jones turned aside 32 shots for Calgary, which trailed 2-0 at both period breaks.

At Edmonton, defenceman Mark Pysyk had a goal and two assists to lift the Oil Kings to a win over Seattle.

At Cranbrook, B.C., Shane Harper had two goals and an assist as Everett Silvertips beat the Ice.


Raiders 6 Tigers 0

At Prince Albert, Sask., Garrett Zemlak made 39 saves as the Raiders blanked Medicine Hat.


Bruins 5 Americans 2

At Chilliwack, B.C., Roman Horak scored the game-winner early in the third and Lucas Gore made 44 saves as the Bruins downed Tri-City.


Wheat Kings 5 Chiefs 4

At Spokane, Wash., Brayden Schenn had two goals as Brandon beat the Chiefs.
