Boeser

The Vancouver Canucks intend to extend a qualifying offer to Brock Boeser, general manager Jim Rutherford told Sportsnet.

"No, we're not going to let him walk," Rutherford said

. "We recognize he's a good player. We can figure out a way to fit him in next season with him taking his qualifying offer. Everything gets tricky and difficult, but we can figure it out."
The 25-year-old forward, who had 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) in 71 games this season, can become a restricted free agent on July 13. He was in the final season of a three-year, $17.625 million contract ($5.875 million average annual value) he signed on Sept. 16, 2019.
The deadline for teams to send its RFAs qualifying offers is July 11. On that same date, RFAs can begin contract talks with rival teams. A qualifying offer is needed to retain negotiating rights to that player if they are given an offer sheet from a rival club. If a team does not send a qualifying offer to an RFA, they become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) on July 13. Stipulations for qualifying offers include: offering at least a one-year contract and at least 100 percent of their previous salary.
Sportsnet reported there have not been any contract discussions of late. Boeser's father, Duke, died on May 27.
Selected by Vancouver in the first round (No. 23) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Boeser has 256 points (121 goals, 135 assists) in 324 regular-season games, and 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
