Dumoulin, Penguins agree to six-year contract

Brian Dumoulin agreed to terms on a six-year, $24.6 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday. It runs through the 2022-23 season and has an average annual value of $4.1 million.
The 25-year-old defenseman was a restricted free agent and was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing in Toronto on Monday.

"I'm glad for us we didn't have to go through the process," he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We agreed on the deal, and I think it works out for both parties."

Dumoulin had 15 points (one goal, 14 assists) and 99 blocked shots in 70 games for the Penguins last season, and six points (one goal, five assists) in 25 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help them win their second straight championship. He led Pittsburgh with an average of 21:59 of ice time per game during the playoffs.

"He's been a good player for us," general manager Jim Rutherford said. "To know that he's going to be with us for a long period of time is good for him and good for us."
Dumoulin, who was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (No. 51) of the 2009 NHL Draft, was traded to the Penguins with center Brandon Sutter and a first-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft on June 22, 2012, for center Jordan Staal. Dumoulin has 33 points (two goals, 31 assists) in 163 NHL games.
The Penguins have an arbitration hearing scheduled with forward Conor Sheary on Aug. 4.
