Brendan Lemieux signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.

"Brendan is a hard-nosed forward who will add some sandpaper to our lineup," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell said. "We're excited to add his physical presence to our team."

The 27-year-old had nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 45 games for the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings last season, including six points (two goals, four assists) in 18 games with the Flyers after he was acquired in a trade March 3 along with a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft for forward Zack MacEwen.

Selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (No. 31) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Lemieux has 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) in 275 regular-season games for the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Kings and Flyers. He has scored one goal in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games.
