Brayden Schenn leads Wheat Kings to 4-2 win over Hitmen in Game 1 of WHLs East final

CALGARY - Brayden Schenn scored the game-winning goal and had an assist as the Brandon Wheat Kings opened the WHL's Eastern Conference final series with a 4-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night.

Travis Hamonic and Matt Calvert also had a goal and an assist each for the Wheat Kings, who improved their road record in the playoffs to 6-0. Toni Rajala also scored, while Scott Glennie chipped in with a pair of assists.

Zak Stebner gave the Hitmen a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 10:37 of the first period, before the Wheat Kings responded with three straight goals. Joel Broda added a late marker in the final frame for the Hitmen, before Calvert counted an empty-net goal to secure the victory.

Brandon goalie Jacob De Serres stopped 23 shots, while Martin Jones made 26 saves in a losing effort.

Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday night in Calgary.
