Brandon Mashinter scores twice as Rangers end skid by downing Petes @NHL

Brandon Mashinter scored two goals and added an assist as the Kitchener Rangers stopped an eight-game losing streak with a 6-2 win against the Peterborough Petes in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.

Chris MacKinnon had a goal and assist for the Rangers (8-9-1-1) , while Jason Akeson added a penalty shot goal and T.J. Battani scored into an empty net. Michael Catenacci also scored.

Justin Larson and Jamie Doornbosch replied for the Petes (9-12-0-1).

Elsewhere in the Ontario Hockey League, Niagara blanked Owen Sound 2-0 and Barrie downed Sudbury 7-4.

At Peterborough, Ont., Parker Van Buskirk stopped 38 shots for the win. Petes' starter Jason Misiaen gave up four goals on 22 shots while Ryan Daniels surrendered one goal on seven shots in relief.

IceDogs 2 Attack 0

At St. Catharines, Ont., rookie goaltender John Cullen stopped all 34 shots for his first shutout as Niagara blanked Owen Sound.

Marco Insam and Matt Sisca scored for the IceDogs (7-8-3-4).

The Attack fell to 7-9-3-1.


Colts 7 Wolves 4

At Barrie, Ont., Alex Hutchings and Daniel Michalsky each had two goals and an assist as the Colts beat Sudbury.

Andrew Clouthier had a goal and an assist while Colt Kennedy and David Archibald also scored for Barrie (9-10-1-0).

Jared Staal had two goals and an assist for Sudbury, while Peter Hermenegildo and John McFarland added singles (9-8-1-1).
