Brady Leavold scores twice as Rockets take series opener 3-2 over Thunderbirds

SEATTLE - Brady Leavold scored twice, including the game winner on a power play in the third period, to lead Kelowna to a 3-2 win over Seattle in the opening game of their Western Hockey League playoff series Friday night.

The Rockets hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Western Conference series, with Seattle hosting Game Two on Saturday night.

Leavold tapped in the winner after a taking a pass from Tyson Barrie on the wing 7:21 into the final period.

Ian McKenzie gave Seattle the lead with a power-play goal at 9:12 into the match, but Lucas Bloodoff's backhand shot tied it six minutes later.

Greg Scott gave Seattle the lead on the power-play at 9:12 of the second period. Leavold scored his first of the game with 14 seconds remaining to send the teams into the second intermission tied 2-2.

Rockets goalie Kristofer Westblom made 27 saves to pick up the win, while Riku Helenius made 24 saves for thee Thunderbirds.

Kelowna scored once on three power-play chances and Seattle converted two-of-three opportunities.
