Slow and steady wins the race, but this was more than Braden Holtby and his two tortoises were bargaining for when they set out to get to Vancouver.

The Vancouver Canucks goalie's wife Brandi took to Twitter on Wednesday to report that Braden, Maple, and Honey were held up trying to cross the U.S.-Canadian border because they didn't have the proper paperwork. Braden signed a two-year, $8.6 million contract with the Canucks in October after spending 10 seasons with the Washington Capitals.
Tweet from @bbholtby: Hey Twitter, does anyone have any sweet connections with Federal Fish and Wildlife that could push some export papers along in order to get two happy tortoises across the border? 🇨🇦🐢🐢🇺🇸 We miss our boys!
"Hey Twitter, does anyone have any sweet connections with Federal Fish and Wildlife that could push some export papers along in order to get two happy tortoises across the border? We miss our boys!," she posted.
She added that they didn't know they needed an export permit in addition to the import permit they had already filed, which birthed the unfortunate visual of Braden holding two tortoises unable to get into Canada.
Tweet from @bbholtby: We havent quite hit our goal of 25k meals for @foodbankmetrodc. BUT, I wanted to official introduce all of you to Maple Holtby, or as we like to call him, Mr. Mape. 🐢💚 pic.twitter.com/3X2wt5biKt

After several users stepped up to offer help, Brandi updated everyone on Thursday that although Braden, "Mr. Mape," and Honey had yet to cross the border, they were working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to get the crew home in a timely manner.
Tweet from @bbholtby: I will let you know when they are safely in Canada sipping a Double-Double and sharing Timbits. 😂
Thankfully, this story has a happy ending after Brandi tweeted an update on Friday.
Tweet from @bbholtby: Welcome to Canada, Honey and Maple! 🇨🇦 Huge shout out to @USFWS for working so hard for us! Thank you for everyones concern.. NOW you may laugh at the image of Braden being stuck at the border with a tortoise under each arm. 🐢👨🏽🌾🐢
