Bouchard clears waivers; Strome next for Islanders?

by Staff

New York Islanders forward Pierre-Marc Bouchard cleared waivers Tuesday and was loaned to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League, the team announced.

Bouchard has nine points in 28 games in his first season with the Islanders; he signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the team in July.

The Islanders could recall forward Ryan Strome from the AHL. Strome, the fifth pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, leads the AHL with 33 points in 23 games. The hope is he can spark a team that is winless in 10 straight (0-8-2) heading into their game Tuesday at the San Jose Sharks.

Newsday reported Tuesday that the plan for Strome was to meet the Islanders in Phoenix on Wednesday and make his NHL debut Thursday against the Phoenix Coyotes.
