McAvoyMW

Charlie McAvoy returned to the Boston Bruins lineup Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 20-year-old defenseman missed 20 games after sustaining a concussion in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 18. He had six points (one goal, five assists) in seven games before the injury.
McAvoy said Saturday he went through a plethora of concussion symptoms, which overwhelmed him, especially at first.
"It's been an experience for me, for sure, going through [a concussion] the first time, kind of learning more about it as I go," McAvoy said. "Unfortunately, I would have loved to have not gone through it, but nonetheless, it's been an experience for me and I'm learning a lot of valuable things."
The Bruins placed defenseman Kevan Miller on injured reserve, claimed forward Gemel Smith off waivers from the Dallas Stars, and assigned defenseman Connor Clifton to Providence of the American Hockey League.
Miller sustained a throat injury when he was struck by a puck during the first period of a 4-2 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 26. He had a CT scan that revealed a cartilage injury to the larynx, which was reviewed and reconfirmed.
The Bruins announced Nov. 28 that Miller will would be re-evaluated in about five weeks.
Smith had three points (two goals, one assist) in 14 games with Dallas this season. Clifton did not have a point in nine games with Boston. He made his NHL debut at Dallas on Nov. 16.
