Blues prospects that stood out in 2016-17

The St. Louis Blues will get a new group of prospects to add to the organization at the 2017 NHL Draft, which takes place in Chicago from June 23-24. But before they do, we're taking a look at how some of the team's current prospects are doing as they develop their game at the minor, collegiate, junior and international levels.

Tage Thompson

Position: C
Age: 19
Drafted: First Round (No 26 overall) in 2016
Tage Thompson, the Blues' first-round pick in last year's Draft, played at the collegiate, AHL and international levels last season.
The sophomore led the University of Connecticut in scoring with 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists) in 34 games, earning a spot on the Hockey East Third All-Star Team. He garnered a nomination for the 2017 Hobey Baker Award and was a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award.
After signing a three-year entry level deal with the Blues in March, Thompson reported to the Chicago Wolves to begin his pro career. He notched two points in 16 games, including his first professional goal on April 1 and recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in 10 playoff games.
Thompson suited up for the USA U20 team at the World Junior Championships, collecting five points in seven games to help his squad capture gold.

Ville Husso

Position: G
Age: 22
Drafted: Fourth Round (No. 94 overall) in 2014
Ville Husso split time between the AHL's Chicago Wolves and ECHL's Missouri Mavericks last season. Previously with HIFK in the Finnish Elite League, 2016-17 was the goaltender's first in the North American professional leagues. Husso had an impressive start to the season with the Mavericks, registering a 3.23 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. He earned a call-up to the AHL full-time in late December.
In 22 games with the Wolves, Husso posted a 13-6 record, 2.37 goals-against average and .920 save-percentage in 22 games. He was the team's starting goaltender for the postseason, going 4-6 with a 3.36 goals-against average and .898 save-percentage.

Jake Walman

Position: D
Age: 21
Drafted: Third Round (No 82 overall) in 2014
Dynamic defenseman Jake Walman rebounded from an injury-shortened 2015-16 to post a solid junior season with Providence College. The assistant captain accrued 18 assists and 25 points in 39 games, including a plus-11 rating. An NCAA championship winner his freshman season, Walman's accolades continued to roll in last year, including NCAA East Second All-American Team and Hockey East First All-Star Team.
At the conclusion of his collegiate season, Walman chose to forego his final year of eligibility to sign his entry-level contract with the Blues. He recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in seven regular-season games and three points (two goals, one assist) in eight playoff games for the Chicago Wolves to close out his 2016-17 season.

Vince Dunn

Position: D
Age: 20
Drafted: Second Round (No. 56 overall) in 2015
Vince Dunn made the jump from junior to pro this past season as he enjoyed a successful rookie campaign with the Chicago Wolves. The offensive defenseman registered 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) and a +15 rating in 72 games, which was good enough to lead all AHL rookie defensemen. He was one of the Wolves' two representatives at the AHL All-Star Game.
In the postseason, Dunn notched six points (one goal, five assists) in 10 games as the Wolves advanced to the second round.

Samuel Blais

Position: LW
Age: 20
Drafted: Sixth Round (No. 176 overall) in 2014
In his first pro season, Samuel Blais turned heads with an impressive campaign. Blais was the first rookie forward on the Wolves to register a 40-point season (26 goals, 43 points in 75 games) since Ty Rattie in 2013-14. His 26 goals ranked second overall on the Wolves and second among AHL rookies. He had the second-most postseason points on the Wolves with 8 (three goals, five assists) in 10 games.

Jordan Kyrou

Position: C
Age: 19
Drafted: Second Round (No. 35 overall) in 2016
Skilled center Jordan Kyrou had his most successful junior season yet in 2016-17 with 94 points (30G, 64A) in 66 games for the Sarnia Sting. He finished the regular season ranked sixth in the OHL in points and fifth in assists. The assistant captain posted a 30-game point streak from Jan. 1 - March 12. He added three points (two goals, two assists) in four playoff games. He finished the season out with the Chicago Wolves, appearing in one game.
