Blue Jackets to interview Wings assistant MacLean @NHL

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -The Columbus Blue Jackets have asked for and been granted permission to speak with Detroit Red Wings assistant Paul MacLean about their vacant head coaching position.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland confirmed Monday that he had been asked by his Columbus counterpart, Scott Howson, and that he believed the interview would take place on Tuesday.

The Blue Jackets are in the process of hiring a replacement for the fired Ken Hitchcock. Interim head coach Claude Noel has yet to be interviewed, but Howson has spoken to American Hockey League coaches Kevin Dineen of Portland and Scott Arniel of Manitoba.

MacLean has spent the past five seasons as an assistant in Detroit, and during the previous two years he also served under Red Wings coach Mike Babcock in Anaheim.
