Blue Jackets send Popperle to Syracuse; Hurricanes send two to Albany @NHL

The Blue Jackets assigned goaltender Tomas Popperle to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League on Friday.

Popperle was taken in the 2005 draft and appeared in two games for Columbus last season.

He was 25-19-4 last season with Syracuse, allowing 2.86 goals per game.

The move reduces Columbus' roster to 33 players.

In other moves, the Carolina Hurricanes assigned defencemen Casey Borer and Brett Carson to the AHL's Albany River Rats, while the Nashville Predators sent forward Janne Niskala and goaltender Pekka Rinne to the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. Borer, 22, had a goal and an assist and a plus-minus rating of plus-three in three pre-season games. He was taken by Carolina in the third round of the 2004 draft out of St. Cloud State University.

Carson, 21, chosen by the Hurricanes in the fourth round in 2004, didn't score in four pre-season games.
