Blue Jackets Pipeline Podcast: Liam Foudy

There are roller coasters that would be jealous of the ups and downs Liam Foudy had this past season.
The Blue Jackets' first-round pick in the 2018 season felt he had a shot to make the team's opening night roster at just 19 years old -- until he suffered a shoulder injury in overtime of the team's final game at the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich., just days before camp began.

"Getting hurt in the last Traverse City game in overtime, it stung a bit. They sent me home right away to do the rehab, but it sucked getting hurt right at the start of the season when you're trying to make an impression."
Yet in the long run, the season ended up being one with many more peaks than valleys for Foudy. He ended up playing for Team Canada in the IIHF World Junior Championships, turning heads -- he was named one of the Canadian squad's top three players at the tourney -- and earning a gold medal in what he describes as a dream come true.

He also still ended up making his NHL debut, playing in two games for Columbus and earning his first NHL point with an assist in a game vs. the Buffalo Sabres.
"That was pretty special," Foudy said. "Seeing how excited the guys were for me, they knew that was an exciting moment in my life. It's something I won't forget for a while."

Foudy also put together a dominant campaign in juniors with the London Knights, tying last year's career-best mark of 68 points in just 45 games. He finished the campaign on an 18-game point streak in which he averaged nearly two points per game, then was named the best skater, best penalty killer and second-best defensive forward in the OHL's Western Conference in the league's postseason coaches poll.
The 20-year-old from Toronto certainly finished strong, and his career looks to on a steady climb upward. Foudy is one of the team's top prospects, and his chat with Tyrer tackles topics like his upbringing as the son of two high-level athletes, how he settled on hockey, his relationships with Nick Foligno and John Tortorella, and his tastes in music and television.
