Columbus Blue Jackets rookie defenseman Ryan Murray will miss 4-6 weeks after knee surgery, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday.
Murray has three goals and 17 points in 61 games and is one of the top rookie defensemen in the NHL. He is averaging 19:47 of ice time, which is fourth on the Blue Jackets.
The 20-year-old, who was the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, left the game Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a lower-body injury. He missed significant time last season while playing with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League because of a shoulder injury.
Columbus is two points behind the Detroit Red Wings for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and three points back of the New York Rangers for the No. 3 seed in the Metropolitan Division.
