RALEIGH, N.C. -- Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Curtis McElhinney will start against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, according to a report by Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Sergei Bobrovsky, who didn't dress for a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night due to flu symptoms, will serve as the backup.
Columbus reassigned goalie Mike McKenna to the Springfield Falcons on Friday night.
Columbus remains in the top wild-card position for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Eastern Conference with 80 points. The Blue Jackets are tied in points with the Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs but their 37 wins is the most of any team in that group and puts them in the lead for the top wild-card spot.
The Hurricanes' playoff hopes are dim. A 9-0-0 finish would leave them with 91 points.
"We still believe we're in this battle," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "Our focus is for everyone coming out and playing to their capabilities and bringing something to the table."
