Blue Jackets hold on to defeat Sabres @NHLdotcom

Lukas Sedlak and Dean Kukan scored 1:25 apart early in the first period, Oliver Bjorkstrand had two goals, and the Columbus Blue Jackets held on to defeat the Buffalo Sabres 6-4 in a preseason game at First Niagara Center on Friday.

Sedlak opened the scoring by beating Robin Lehner 5:05 into the game, and Kukan made it 2-0 at 6:30. Markus Hannikainen's breakaway goal at 19:19 gave Columbus a 3-0 lead.

William Karlsson and Bjorkstrand scored on the Blue Jackets’ first two shots of the second period to push it to 5-0.

The Sabres scored four times in the third period before Bjorkstrand hit the empty net with 1:19 remaining. Jamie McGinn had two goals, and Zemgus Girgensons and Evander Kane scored for Buffalo.

Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves for Columbus, which is 4-2-1 entering its preseason finale against the Nashville Predators at home on Saturday.

Lehner made 20 saves for the Sabres, who finished the preseason 4-3-0.
