Blue Jackets activate Boll off IR @NHL

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated right wing Jared Boll off injured reserve after he missed the team's first 14 games with a broken thumb.

He had suffered the injury during a preseason game.

The 25-year-old gives the club, which has the worst record in the NHL, a little more of an edge. He had 182 penalty minutes - seventh in the NHL - in 73 games a year ago. He also had a career-high seven goals and five assists.

The move was announced by general manager Scott Howson on Thursday.
