EDMONTON, AB - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the Oilers nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the National Hockey League announced on Monday.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
The 25-year-old forward has been heavily invested in Edmonton's community throughout his career. Team Nugent-Hopkins won the Charity Cup this past season as part of the Hockey Helps Kids initiative.
Mary Butterworth School, also known as Team Nugent-Hopkins, donated $25,000 to the Dogs with Wings charity, whose goal is "to change lives for the better by fostering integration and independence for Albertans with disabilities by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs and aftercare."
Nugent-Hopkins is also involved in the Faceoff with CF Gala. He is the honourary Chairperson of the event, helping raise funds and awareness, while also developing
close relationships with some of those battling Cystic Fibrosis.
