The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, native registered his 100th career goal on March 28 at the Nashville Predators and earned third star of the game honors after also contributing an assist, five shots and winning 69 percent of his faceoffs (11-of-16) in the Avalanche victory.
Comeau finished his first season in Colorado with 12 goals and a career-high 24 assists. He also tied for the team lead with two short-handed goals and ranked third with 173 hits.
His first shorty on Nov. 14 at Montreal was also his first tally with the Avs. It ended up being a night of achievements for the 30-year-old as the goal marked his 200th point in the league, and it came in his 500th NHL contest.
"It's an exciting accomplishment," Comeau said about reaching the half-century mark in games played. "Growing up, you dream about playing in the NHL and when the day finally comes, it's an exciting time. And to be able to play in the league this long, I've been very fortunate. I've gotten to meet some great people, play with some great players. I think it's just a time that I can look back at everything and be proud and be excited."
Comeau's second short-handed goal on Dec. 19 versus Edmonton was also part of a three-game point streak, which he had two of during the year.
Overall, the 10-year NHL veteran played in all but one regular season contest last season, but the reason why he missed the Jan. 22 game against St. Louis was for good reason. It was for the birth of his second child, daughter Finley.
Comeau played most of the season on a line with fellow forward Carl Soderberg, and the two veterans developed a nice chemistry with one another at both even strength and on the power play.
"I feel like we've clicked really well," said Comeau on Feb. 24. "He's an easy guy to play with; he does a lot of small things really well, which makes playing on his line easy.
Said Soderberg in January: "We work hard, and I think we're both smart players. Good sticks, that's the key in the PK. You have to work and win battles. I think Blake is really strong in battles and wins a lot of them. That's our success."
Comeau returns for another season with the Avs in 2016-17 and looks to continue on his success that he built in his inaugural year in Denver.
