CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Blackhawks signed free agent center Robert Lang to a two-year contract Monday.

The 36-year-old Lang played with the Detroit Red Wings last season, scoring 19 goals with 33 assists in 81 games.

"Robert gives us another offensive weapon at the center position," general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement. "He is a right hand shot who will be able to help us on our power play. He definitely gives us more strength up the middle."

Lang became eligible as an unrestricted free agent Sunday after the Red Wings decided not to offer him a contract.

He began his career with the Los Angeles Kings and also has played with Boston, Pittsburgh and Washington.

In addition, he's participated in four Winter Olympic Games for the Czech Republic: 1992, 1998, 2002 and 2006.

Lang has 213 goals and 368 assists in his career.
