SAN JOSE -- Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews left the game Wednesday against the San Jose Sharks in the second period with an undisclosed injury.

"We'll see how he is tomorrow," coach Joel Quenneville said after a 2-1 loss to the Sharks. "We're hopeful that he's OK and it's nothing long-term or serious."

Toews went to the locker room after leaving the ice with 11:17 remaining in the second, shortly after he fell awkwardly into the boards. The center skated three shifts for 1:32 of ice time in the period.

Toews had a minus-1 rating and two shots on goal in 9:15.
