Blackhawks' Cumiskey likely to play in Game 2

by Shawn Roarke /

ANAHEIM -- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Kyle Cumiskey will likely replace David Rundblad for Game 2 of the Western Conference Final against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday at Honda Center (9 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Cumiskey has not played for the Blackhawks since Feb. 27, but Rundblad struggled in a 4-1 loss in Game 1 on Sunday. Cumiskey was playing for Rockford of the American Hockey League before he was called up for depth at the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"Very likely," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said in his pregame availability when asked about Cumiskey playing.

Quenneville said it would be status quo for the rest of his lineup. That means forward Bryan Bickell, who temporarily left Game 1 with what appeared to be an arm injury, will be in the lineup. Anaheim leads the best-of-7 series 1-0.

"I just got the wind knocked out of me," Bickell said. "I had a couple seconds to recover. I'm sure everyone's got the wind knocked out of them before. You just couldn't capture your breath. Went in the locker room a couple minutes to find it, came back out shortly later."

Quenneville is looking for answers on his third defense pairing after the season-ending ankle injury to Michal Rozsival in Game 4 of the second-round sweep of the Minnesota Wild.

Rundblad was paired with Kimmo Timmonen in Game 1 but struggled in limited playing time and played a huge part in two of Anaheim's goals. Timonen was left on the bench for long stretches; he played 5:15.

"I think he's getting a little bit more confidence in himself and his game, predictability, where the outlets are, how we play in our own end," Quenneville said. "I didn't mind his game the other day. We'll see how things go tonight. Hopefully we can get him more involved in the game."
