Bitetto signs one-year contract with Predators

Restricted free agent defenseman Anthony Bitetto accepted his qualifying offer and signed a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday with the Nashville Predators worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $60,000 at the American Hockey League level.

Bitetto, 23, tied for sixth among AHL defenseman in goals (11) and ninth in power-play goals (six) during his first full season with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2013-14. The Island Park, N.Y., native led the Admirals and ranked 16th among AHL defenseman with 36 points, and second in shooting percentage (11.6).

Selected in the sixth round (No. 168) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Bitetto split his first professional season between Milwaukee and Cincinnati of the ECHL in 2012-13. He played all 72 games of his two-year collegiate career at Northeastern University (2010-12), where he had 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) and helped the Indiana Ice win the 2009 Clark Cup as United States Hockey League champions.
