PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Jordan Binnington stopped 36 shots as the Owen Sound Attack defeated the host Plymouth Whalers 3-1 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.
Kurtis Gabriel had a goal and an assist for the Attack, who evened the best-of-seven second-round matchup 1-1, while Holden Cook and Zach Nastasiuk scored the others.
Ryan Hartman scored for the Whalers, who lost for just the second time in 23 games dating back to the regular season.
Plymouth's Vincent Trocheck, who was the OHL's regular-season scoring leader, produced 12 points in a four-game first round sweep of the Sarnia Sting. However, he has just one assist in two games against Owen Sound.
Alex Nedeljkovic turned away 24-of-27 shots in defeat for the Whalers.
Hartman opened the scoring 3:56 into the first period and it stayed 1-0 Plymouth until Nastasiuk responded for Owen Sound at 10:49 of the second period.
Cook scored the eventual winner at 11:41 of the third and Gabriel scored his first-career playoff goal, while shorthanded, just over four minutes later.
Neither club could produce with the power play as Owen Sound went 0 for 7 and Plymouth 0 for 4.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday when the Attack host the Whalers at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
