TORONTO - The NHL is taking its time on expansion and the Olympics.
Commissioner Gary Bettman reiterated Monday morning there's no timeline for the board of governors to make a decision about expanding to Quebec City, Las Vegas, both or neither.
Bettman added the league could have up to a year to decide whether to allow players to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed no final decision on expansion will come at the next board of governors meeting in December.
The NHL and NHL Players' Association met recently in New York with international officials to discuss future Olympic participation.
Bettman said the 2022 Games taking place in Beijing is a "game changer" because of the potential of the Chinese market.
