Jonathan Bernier Focus Colorado Avalanche Tampa Bay Lightning 121617

Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jonathan Bernier was named the NHL's second star for the week ending on Jan. 7, the league announced on Monday.
Bernier went 3-0-0 with a 1.60 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage to help the Avalanche extend its winning streak to five games, the team's longest run since Dec. 12-19, 2015.

On Tuesday, Bernier made 21 saves to backstop Colorado to a 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets. He entered the game at the end of the second period in relief of Semyon Varlamov who left the contest with a lower-body injury.

Bernier stopped all 34 shots he faced on Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets to earn his second shutout of the season and 16th of his career. The Laval, Quebec, native had another 34-save performance on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild in Colorado's 7-2 win.
The netminder owns a 9-7-1 record in 17 appearances this season, including victories in five of his last six outings. Bernier has a 2.88 goals-against average and .909 save percentage this season.

This is Bernier's first NHL's three stars of the week honor since he was named the second with the Anaheim Ducks for the week ending March 12 during the 2016-17 campaign.
It is the second time this season an Avalanche player has been named a star of the week as Nathan MacKinnon was previously named the third star for the week of Nov. 13-19.
Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron was named the league's first star of the week while Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby earned third star honors.
