Benoit chips in two points to lead the Ice to a 4-2 victory against the Hitmen @NHLdotcom

CALGARY - Erik Benoit had a goal and an assist to lead the Kootenay Ice to a 4-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

Mike Simpson, Drew Czerwonka and Adam Rossignol also scored for the Ice (9-3-2). For Simpson, it was his first career WHL goal.

Brooks Macek and Trevor Cheek scored power-play goals for the Hitmen (4-5-1), whose winning streak ended at three games.

Kootenay led 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 after the second before Cheek scored to pull the Hitmen within a goal in the final frame. Rossignol then scored into an empty net to secure the victory for the Ice.

Kootenay goalie Nathan Lieuwen made 21 saves to pick up his seventh win of the season.

Calgary netminder Chris Driedger stopped 25-of-29 shots in a losing cause.
