Calgary Flames top draft pick Sam Bennett is among a host of players battling injury and illness in the opening days of training camp.
Bennett, the No. 4 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, is day-to-day with a groin injury, the Flames announced Friday. He sat out the third period of their rookie tournament game Monday
Also listed as day-to-day are defensemen Tyler Wotherspoon (shoulder) and Corey Potter (shoulder), and forwards Mikael Backlund (abdominal strain) and Emile Poirier (shoulder). Left wing Trevor Gillies is battling the flu.
