Benn scores, adds assist in third period as Rockets beat Oil Kings 5-2

KELOWNA, B.C. - Jamie Benn had a goal and assist for Kelowna, with both points coming in the third period, as the Rockets defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

Stepan Novotny, Dylan Hood, Colin Long and Jesse Paradis, into an empty net, also scored for Kelowna (12-7-0-0).

Craig McCallum, who had a two-point night with an assist, and Jesse Pearson, with his first WHL goal, replied for Edmonton (8-10-1-1).

The Rockets trailed 1-0 after the first period in the lacklustre affair, which saw the two teams tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. Kelowna iced the game with three goals in the third, all in the latter-half of the frame, including Long's game winner on the power play at 10:02.

Rookie Adam Brown made 22 saves for the Rockets and improved to 7-0-0-0, while former Rocket puckstopper Torrie Jung took the loss for Edmonton. The Nanaimo, B.C., product turned aside 30 shots.
