Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars and Team Chara put on a display of hockey marksmanship to win the Canadian Tire NHL Accuracy Shooting on Saturday night at Scotiabank Place.
With the total time needed to hit the four targets the deciding factor, Benn cruised past NHL goal-scoring leader Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning in his round, hitting all four targets in 13.583 seconds, the fastest of anyone on Team Chara. That earned him a berth in the final, where he faced Philadelphia rookie Matt Read of Team Alfredsson, who beat Vancouver's Cody Hodgson in the opening round with a time of 14.011 seconds.
Read put up another good time, hitting the four targets in 16.631 seconds. But Benn was even better, firing off six shots and hitting on four to win in 10.204 seconds.
"Just hitting the targets," he said when asked about the most difficult aspect of the competition. "It's a lot harder than it looks."
