Ben Maxwell scores shootout winner as Kootenay edges Spokane 3-2 @NHLdotcom

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Ben Maxwell scored the shootout winner in his first game back after a thigh injury kept him out of 39 games as the Kootenay Ice edged the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in WHL action Friday night.

After a scoreless first period the Chiefs (37-10-1-4) took a 2-0 lead on goals by Mitch Wahl and Judd Blackwater six and a half minutes into the middle frame.

Dustin Sylvester finally got the Ice (30-18-4-1) on the board in the period's last minute, potting his 26th with the club on the power play, it's first man-advantage goal in six games after an 0-21 run.

Steve Da Silva redirected his team-leading 29th goal of the season past Kevin Armstrong to tie the game at two, 2:53 into the third period.

Maxwell and Sylvester added shoot-out goals while the Chiefs were held scoreless.

Kris Lazaruk stopped 29 of 31 shots and both shoot-out attempts by the Chiefs to get the win while Kevin Armstrong stopped 34 of 36 shots to take the loss.
