Battalion beat Wolves 6-1, take 3-0 lead of first-round OHL series

SUDBURY, Ont. - Sam Carrick scored two goals as the Brampton Battalion beat the Sudbury Wolves 6-1 Tuesday night and took a 3-0 stranglehold on the first-round Ontario Hockey League playoff series.

Dylan Blujus had a goal and two assists for Brampton, while Jamie Lewis, Ian Watters and Barclay Goodrow also scored.

Michael Sgarbossa scored the only goal for the Wolves.

Brampton can finish the sweep Wednesday in Sudbury.

Brampton opened up the scoring at the 6:17 mark of the first as Carrick scored on a short-handed breakaway.

The Battalion extended their lead 19:43 into the first, as Watters tipped home a Blujus point shot on a 5-on-3 power play.

Brampton scored again at the 2:54 mark of the second period , as Blujus pinched in from the blue-line to put in a bouncing puck.

The one-sided score continued to build as Lewis, Goodrow and Carrick added second-period goals.

The Wolves got on the board at the 5:41 mark of the third period, as Michael Sgarbossa scored on a short-handed breakaway.

Wolves goalie Johan Mattsson finished with 13 saves on 18 shots, while Sudbury's Joel Vienneau made 10 saves on 11 shots in relief. Battalion goalie Matej Machovsky stopped 14 shots.

Brampton went 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Wolves were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
