TORONTO - Barrie Colts goaltender Michael Hutchinson was named Ontario Hockey League player of the week on Monday.
Hutchinson allowed just one goal in two wins last week as the Colts bounced the Brampton Battalion from the OHL playoffs. He finished the week with a 0.43 goals-against average and a .990 save percentage.
The 18-year-old Barrie native started the week with 62 saves, including 16 in overtime, to back the Colts to a 2-1 win in Game 5 of the series on Tuesday and then stopped all 34 shots he faced in a 2-0 win in the series' clincher on Thursday. He was the first star in both games.
Manitoba's Moran named AHL player of week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Manitoba Moose centre Brad Moran was named American Hockey League player of the week on Monday.
Moran had eight points (one goals, seven assists) in four road games last week as the Moose clinched a berth in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Galiardi named WHL player of week
CALGARY - Forward T.J. Galiardi of the Calgary Hitmen was named Western Hockey League player of the week on Monday.
The 19-year-old from Calgary recorded 10 points (two goals, eight assists) with a plus-7 rating in four playoff games last week as the Hitmen eliminated the Moose Jaw Warriors from the WHL playoffs.
The WHL also nominated Dustin Tokarski of the Spokane Chiefs for the CHL goaltender of the week award.
