Rangers acquire Goodrow from Lightning, trade Howden to Golden Knights

Barclay Goodrow was traded to the New York Rangers by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday for a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

The 28-year-old forward, who can become an unrestricted free agent July 28, scored 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 55 games this season. He scored six points (two goals, four assists) in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games, winning the Cup with the Lightning for the second straight season after he was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 24, 2020.
Signed by San Jose as a free agent March 6, 2014, Goodrow has scored 93 points (32 goals, 61 assists) in 331 regular-season games with the Lightning and Sharks and 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 65 playoff games.
The Rangers also traded forward Brett Howden to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday for defenseman
Nick DeSimone
and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft.
Howden signed a one-year, $885,000 contract with the Rangers on July 9. The 23-year-old scored seven points (one goal, six assists) in 42 games this season.

Selected by the Lightning in the first round (No. 27) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Howden has scored 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) in 178 regular-season games and no points in three playoff games, all with the Rangers.
DeSimone was traded to the Golden Knights in a three-team trade involving the Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks on April 21. The 26-year-old had 11 assists in 22 games with San Jose and Rochester of the American Hockey League this season and has not played in the NHL.
