Backlund's two goals lifts Rockets over Winter Hawks 6-2 @NHLdotcom

KELOWNA, B.C - Mikael Backlund had a two-goal night as the Kelowna Rockets rung up the Portland Winter Hawks 6-2 in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday night.

Backlund scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season, while Tyson Barrie, Lucas Bloodoff, Jamie Benn, with his 44th, and Cody Almond also scored for Kelowna (44-21-1-3), which led 2-1 and 4-1 at the period breaks.

With the win, the Rockets are 9-1-0-0 in their past 10 games.

Brad Ross and Chris Francis replied for Portland (18-47-2-2).

Mark Guggenberger made 25 saves for the Rockets, who close out regular-season play this weekend with three games in three nights. Kelowna plays a home-and-home series with the Kamloops Blazers that starts Friday in Kamloops, B.C., then plays its final regular-season game in Spokane on Sunday against the Chiefs.

Kelowna product Keith Hamilton made 45 saves for the Winter Hawks.
