Avs get captain Adam Foote back

by Brian Hedger
DETROIT – Colorado's beat-up blue line got a boost when captain Adam Foote returned to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

Foote, who's been out since Oct. 21 with a head injury, was added to the active roster just before game time -- and the timing couldn't have been better for the Avs. Colorado has a slew of injuries along its blue line and Foote gives them a much-needed veteran presence on the back end to help rookies Johan Holos, Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen, as well as newcomer Ryan O'Byrne, who was acquired from Montreal this week.
Colorado is still without Kyle Cumiskey and Kyle Quincey, both out with concussions, as well as Ryan Wilson (leg injury).  The Avs are also playing without starting goaltender Craig Anderson, who's out with a knee injury.

Foote, 39, is playing in his 19th season in the League. He's just the second captain since the franchise moved from Quebec to Colorado in 1995 and is tied with Sandis Ozolinsh for most points by a defenseman (253) in franchise history. He has 2 assists in six games this season.
