Avalanche place goalie Varlamov on injured reserve

by Staff

The Colorado Avalanche have placed goaltender Semyon Varlamov (groin) on injured reserve, the team announced Thursday prior to the game against the Ottawa Senators.

Varlamov took part in the morning skate and left the ice first, but was listed as a game-time decision. Calvin Pickard was recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League and Reto Berra will start against Ottawa, according to the Denver Post.

Varlamov, a Vezina Trophy finalist last season whose 41 wins led the NHL and set a franchise record, is 0-2-1 with a 3.80 goals-against average and .910 save percentage this season.
