Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has been suspended two games for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vladislav Namestnikov

NEW YORK -- Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vladislav Namestnikov during NHL Game No. 505 in Colorado on Saturday, Dec. 16, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 16:57 of the second period. Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for slashing and a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Johnson will forfeit $64,516.12. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
