The New York Rangers traded the rights to center Eric Hunter to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday in exchange for future considerations.

A sixth-round selection by the Rangers in the 2006 Entry Draft, Hunter played the past four seasons for the University of Alberta in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association. He finished with highs of 11 goals and 31 points in 28 games as a junior and followed that up with 10 goals and 23 points in 25 games as a senior.

The 25-year-old Hunter previously played five seasons for Prince George in the WHL, where he had career-bests of 40 goals and 72 points in 71 games during the 2005-06 games.
