At the Rink: Wild at Kings

by Staff

The Los Angeles Kings host the Minnesota Wild on Friday and are looking for their first win of the season.

The Kings (0-3-0) have lost each of their three games at home and have been outscored 12-2. They are 0-for-13 on the power play.

"I think we need more time with the puck," Kings coach Darryl Sutter told on Friday. "I think we’ve spent a lot of time going 200 feet up and down the ice instead of battling for the puck and not thinking about the fancy play. Two games ago I think we had good looks, and this last game we didn't."

It will be a tough test against the undefeated Wild (3-0-0).

"Same challenge as last year," Sutter said. "Very same team. Fast team and a structured team."

Minnesota will turn to Darcy Kuemper in goal after Devan Dubnyk started the first three games.

"We're hoping and we're counting on Darcy to give us a really good chance to win that game. But we're also hoping and counting on our team to play a real good game in front of him and give him a real good chance to perform at his highest level," coach Mike Yeo told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune on Thursday.

Kuemper played 38 games last season, the majority of them coming before the Wild acquired Dubnyk. It will be his first start since April 9 when he allowed two goals on 34 shots in a 4-2 win against the Nashville Predators.

"I'm thinking that we are going to see a very desperate, very good hockey team tonight," Yeo told the Wild website Friday. "There's been a lot of times where [the Kings] look unlucky to be winless right now. They are creating plays but it just hasn't gotten in for them"

Kings defenseman Derek Forbort, 23, a Minnesota native, will make his NHL debut.

Here are the projected lineups:

Marian Gaborik - Anze Kopitar - Dustin Brown
