At the Rink: Jets at Predators

by Robby Stanley

NASHVILLE -- The Winnipeg Jets will try to improve their fortunes on the road against the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; TSN3, FS-TN).

The Jets lost 7-0 to the Predators in their first game in Nashville on Nov. 14 and fell behind 4-0 in the first period. That game will serve as motivation for the Jets to get off to a better start and come away with a win against a Central Division opponent.

"I think there's a lot of games in between the two," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "We certainly have a memory of how sideways that went on us real early in the game, and we were embarrassed in here as a team, so there will be some urgency not to let that happen. It seems like a while ago for us."

There were a combined 156 penalty minutes in the first game between the Jets and Predators. The Jets know they will have to be more disciplined Tuesday if they want to capture a win on the road. They have lost 13 of their past 15 road games.

"It's in the back of our minds, but at the same time every game possesses a different challenge," Jets forward Chris Thorburn said. "The challenge is coming in for us tonight. The biggest thing is the two points and how we go about doing that. We want to stay composed and understand what it takes to win and hopefully execute that."

Nashville expects a much tougher game against Winnipeg on Tuesday, similar to what it saw last season.

"Some of the games last year were so tight," Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. "Twenty-one shots to 24 shots and scoring chances in the single digits. You never know what to expect each night, but we're going to expect it to be a heavy game. They usually are."
