At the Rink: Flames at Rangers

by Dan Rosen / NHL.com

NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers will try to extend their point streak to four games with goalie Antti Raanta in net against the Calgary Flames at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN-US, TVA Sports 1, SN, SN1, MSG).

Raanta is expected to get his second start of the season. He had a 22-save shutout in a 4-0 win against the San Jose Sharks on Monday.

The Rangers (5-2-2) are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Henrik Lundqvist made 46 saves. The Rangers defeated the Sharks and Arizona Coyotes earlier in the week by a combined score of 8-1.

The Rangers will be without left wing Viktor Stalberg, who sustained a head injury Saturday on a hit by Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas in the final minute of the second period.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Stalberg is day-to-day.

Emerson Etem is expected to take Stalberg's place in the lineup. Etem has been a healthy scratch in eight of New York's nine games this season. His lone appearance came Oct. 15 in a 3-0 loss against the Montreal Canadiens. He had no points and was a minus-1 in 7:09 of ice time.

Etem, who was acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks during the offseason, was expected to earn a regular spot in the lineup, but he struggled during the preseason with no points, a minus-2 rating and eight shots on goal in five games.

"It's tough to get a read on him so far," Vigneault said. "I do think his best game was the one that he played during the regular season. He's going to get another opportunity to show what he can do. It's not an easy circumstance when you're playing a game every now and then. But depending on how he plays he might be back in next game. Like we've mentioned before, he's a big body and he's got good speed. Hopefully he can utilize it and bring us a positive contribution."

The Flames (2-5-0) stopped a four-game losing streak Friday with a 3-2 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings. Flames captain Mark Giordano had three points, including a goal in overtime. The Flames had a season-high 40 shots on goal against the Red Wings.

Calgary forward Micheal Ferland will not play Sunday and is considered week-to-week because of a sprained knee, general manager Brad Treliving said. Ferland was injured in the win against Detroit.

The Flames recalled Derek Grant from Stockton of the American Hockey League and he will replace Ferland in the lineup. It will be his first NHL game since Dec. 1, 2013.

Grant has no goals and two assists in 25 NHL games, all with the Ottawa Senators. He spent last season in the AHL.

"Obviously a lot of history in this rink," Grant said. "Just excited to get a game here and hopefully bring a solid presence and help this team win."

Flames goalie Jonas Hiller will make his second consecutive start and fourth consecutive appearance.

Hiller made 27 saves in the win against Detroit. He also made 10 saves in relief of Karri Ramo in Calgary's 6-2 loss to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday and he allowed all five goals in a 5-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 17.

Calgary has allowed two goals in each of its wins, and three or more goals in each of its five losses, including five or more in three of them.
