At the Rink: Blue Jackets at Islanders

by Brian Compton

NEW YORK -- The New York Islanders will make two lineup changes when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets at Barclays Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; FS-O, MSG+).

Defenseman Marek Zidlicky will replace Scott Mayfield and goaltender Thomas Greiss will start in place of Jaroslav Halak.

Islanders coach Jack Capuano was livid following a 4-0 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. He said he was puzzled by his team's slow start and went as far as to say he and general manager Garth Snow were prepared to discuss roster changes.

The Islanders (22-15-5) have scored one goal in their past two games and there's hope that the two changes are enough to invigorate the offense.

"I think after a loss, even as a team or a coach, you're so emotionally invested that until you watch the game tape again … especially us, two [games] in a row without any offense, you get frustrated," Capuano said.

The lack of offense starts at the top. Captain John Tavares, who was second in the League in scoring last season, has two goals in his past 11 games. Ryan Strome hasn't scored in 16 games. Anders Lee, who scored 25 goals as a rookie last season, has six goals in 42 games this season. The Islanders have scored four power-play goals in their past 35 opportunities.

"I think our forwards need to realize that they got to take the game over," Capuano said. "From our forward standpoint, the four lines that we've got, we've got to get a little bit more. Somehow, some way, you've got to dig deep and you've got to find a way. You've got one goal in the last six periods of hockey. I don't care what kind of defense that you play; at some point you're going to have to get a couple goals to win a game."

The Blue Jackets (15-24-4) are playing the first of back-to-back road games; they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. This will be their first game at Barclays Center.
